An update on Verizon Connect and the Canadian ELD Mandate

What’s happening?

On June 12, 2021, all Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) operating in Canada are subject to the Commercial Vehicle Hours of Service Regulations for electronic logging devices*. June 12 marks the start of 12 months of “progressive enforcement” focusing on education and awareness. Over the next year motor carriers operating heavy vehicles in Canada will be encouraged to transfer to an ELD system certified by the accredited 3rd party.

Current state

Our Logbook application operates under the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCTMA) AOBRD ruleset for Canada and is fully compliant today with those standards. For customers who cross the border between Canada and the US, our platform operates under the US ELD ruleset while driving in the US and under the Canadian AOBRD ruleset when in Canada.

Canadian ELD in 2022

Full enforcement of the regulations is expected to begin in June 2022. We will provide an update about our Canadian ELD compliant solution to you as soon as possible.

In the meantime, if you have any additional questions, please reach out to your Verizon Connect customer success manager.
