Set up your drivers for ELD

This article describes how to set up your drivers so that they can use the LogBook app for tracking their hours of service and complying with ELD regulations.

Initial setup:

  1. Configure default ELD settings in your account.
  2. For each of your ELD drivers, create a new ELD driveror edit the existing driver to use ELD.

Setup for new drivers, when your organisation is already using ELD:

  1. Create a new ELD driver.

At any time, you can change the ELD settings for all drivers in your account or for individual drivers.

To check that your ELD drivers are set up correctly for ELD, you can perform an ELD compliance check.

Configure default ELD settings in your account

To set up all of your drivers for ELD, follow these instructions:

  1. Log in to Reveal.
  2. Click on your account profile in the upper right corner of the screen, and then select My Account in the drop-down menu.
  3. Under Account Preferences, expand the Mobile Options section.
  4. Set ELD Compliant to “Yes”.
  5. Enter all other applicable details. See Account preferences > Mobile Options for descriptions of the options available.

  6. Click Save.
  7. For each driver who will be using ELD in your organisation, edit the driver’s existing account to use ELD or create a new ELD driver.

Create a new ELD driver

The following steps are required for each of your drivers as part of the initial setup process and when new drivers join your organisation. This section assumes that the driver does not yet exist in your account.

To create a new ELD driver:

  1. Log in to Reveal.
  2. Click on your account profile in the upper right, and then select >Admin in the drop-down menu.
  3. Under Drivers, click Create a New Driver.
  4. On the Details tab, enter the following required details:
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Email address

  5. The following details are also required so that the new driver can access the LogBook app:
    • In the upper part of the dialog box, select the check box next to ELD Compliant.
    • Under Driver License, select the state and enter the license number.
    • Under Mobile Access, select the check box next to Enable Access and enter the driver’s password. You must notify the driver of their password.

  6. On the Mobile Options tab, you can change any of the settings for this driver. See driver-specific ELD settings for more information. If you want to override settings that you have defined for all drivers in your account, clear the check box next to Inherited from Account Preferences. You can then change ELD settings such as Ruleset, Company Info, and Driver Time Zone.

  7. Click Save.

Edit an existing driver to use ELD

Use the following steps to configure drivers in your account to use ELD:

  1. Log in to Reveal.
  2. Click on your account profile in the upper right, and then select Admin in the drop-down menu.
  3. Under Drivers, click Driver/Technician List.
  4. Find the driver you want to edit, or click Would you like to search for a driver? to search for a driver by name.
  5. Click the pencil icon next to the driver you want to edit.
  6. In the Edit Driver dialog box, select the Details tab.
  7. The following details are required so that the driver can access the LogBook app:
    • In the upper part of the dialog box, select the check box next to ELD Compliant.
    • Under Driver License, select the state and enter the license number.
    • Under Mobile Access, select the check box next to Enable Access and enter the driver’s password. You must notify the driver of their password.

  8. In the Edit Driver dialog box, select the Mobile Options tab.
  9. On the Mobile Options tab, you can change any of the settings for this driver. See driver-specific ELD settings for more information. If you want to override settings that you have defined for all drivers in your account, clear the check box next to Inherited from Account Preferences. You can then change ELD settings such as Ruleset, Company Info, and Driver Time Zone.

  10. Click Save.

Driver-specific ELD settings

You can configure the following ELD settings individually for each driver in your account under Drivers > Edit driver or Create driver > Mobile Options:

  • ELD Compliant:If this driver is ELD compliant, select “Yes”. The driver must install the Reveal ELD LogBook mobile app on their device so that HOS information can be tracked. 
  • Mobile Access:Select the check box next to Enable Access so that this driver can access the LogBook mobile app.
  • Permissions: Select the check box next to Disable HOS Warning if you do not want to display HOS warnings in LogBook.
  • Enable tracking of: Select the check box next to Personal Use to allow the driver to use the Personal Use sub status. Select the check box next to Yard Moves to allow the driver to use the Yard Moves sub status.
  • Driver License: Set the driver’s license number and state on the Details tab.
  • Ruleset: This is pre-filled with the default for all drivers in your organisation. You can override the setting for this driver if you clear the check box next to Inherited from Account Preferences and select a ruleset from the drop-down list.
  • Rule cycle: Choose 7 days (60hrs) or 8 days (70hrs). This setting defines whether the weekly cycle includes 7 or 8 days.
  • Start time: Select the default start time for all drivers. You can change this for a particular driver under Admin > Drivers > Driver list > Edit Driver > Mobile Options.This is the start time that is used on the Graph and Events and Stops tabs of the Status Log screen in the LogBook mobile app.
  • Default driver time zone: Select a default time zone for all of your drivers.
  • DOT number: Enter your company's USDOT number. This was used when registering your company with the FMCSA. This is a required field.
  • Carrier name: Enter your carrier or company name. This was used when registering your company with the FMCSA. This is a required field.
  • Carrier home terminal: Enter the main address of your company. This is a required field.
