Dashboard Metrics
Dashboard metrics allow you to accurately measure fleet performance and identify trends. They can be shown for vehicles, drivers, and groups. The overall dashboard can display results for your entire fleet or an individual group of your choosing.
Not every metric can be run for both vehicles and drivers. Please see individual metric explanations below for details.
Benchmark comparisons are available for many of the metrics. These provide focus on individual vehicle or driver performance against company parameters and their peers. Benchmarks can be set in the My Benchmarks section of the site.
The following Reveal metrics are available:
- Average Speed
- CANbus Idle
- Distance Travelled
- Engine ON/OFF
- Fuel Efficiency
- Fuel Efficiency (CANbus)
- Fuel Consumed (CANbus)
- Fuel Purchased
- Harsh Driving
- High Speed
- Idling Duration
- Number of Stops
- Payroll Expenses Modelled
- Safety Score
- Speeding
- Start Time
- Stop Duration
- Vehicle Activity
- Vehicle Maintenance Expense
- Wasted Fuel
Average Speed
This metric shows the average speed of your fleet (or chosen group) during the selected period of time. It is possible to set what you deem to be an acceptable average speed in the My Benchmarks section of the site. The metric will display the acceptable average speed benchmark and will indicate if it has been exceeded.
CANbus Idle
Idling can be defined as when a vehicle has its ignition on, but where no (or limited) movement is detected. This metric is only available for users with the CANbus feature enabled. It requires Verizon Connect to connect directly to your vehicles' CANbus systems. From there we can extract data which, in this case, supplies an accurate account of vehicle idling. The metric will run a comparison with the idling benchmarks set up in My Benchmarks. It displays what is deemed an acceptable idling duration and indicates if it has been exceeded.
CANbus (controller-area network) is a message-based protocol designed specifically for automotive applications.
Distance Travelled
This metric displays how far your fleet (or chosen group) has travelled during the selected period of time. It displays the acceptable daily mileage and indicates if this has been exceeded. The acceptable mileage ("Max travelled") benchmark can be set in My Benchmarks.
ECM Fuel Efficiency
This metric is only available for users with the CANbus feature enabled. It shows the cost efficiency of vehicles based on data from your CANbus systems.
Engine ON/OFF
This metric indicates the engine on and off duration for your fleet (or chosen group) during a selected time period. It displays the acceptable engine on time and indicates if this has been exceeded. The acceptable engine on time is based on a 24-hour period and can be set in My Benchmarks.
Fuel Efficiency
This metric calculates the cost efficiency of vehicles based on the volume of fuel purchased and the odometer differences between purchases.
Fuel Efficiency (CANbus)
This metric is only available for users with the CANbus feature enabled. It requires Verizon Connect to connect directly to your vehicles' CANbus systems. From there we can extract data which, in this case, can tell us how fuel-efficient your vehicles have been.
CANbus (controller-area network) is a message-based protocol designed specifically for automotive applications.
Fuel Consumed (CANbus)
This metric is only available for users with the CANbus feature enabled. It requires Verizon Connect to connect directly to your vehicles' CANbus systems. From there we can extract data which, in this case, allows us to tell how much fuel is being consumed by each vehicle in your fleet or chosen group. It displays the acceptable average daily fuel consumption allowance and indicates if this has been exceeded. The acceptable daily fuel consumption allowance can be set in My Benchmarks.
CANbus (controller-area network) is a message-based protocol designed specifically for automotive applications.
Fuel Purchased
For this metric to work, active fuel cards must be registered with Reveal. Once fuel card registration is complete, all fuel purchase transactions will be recorded by Reveal. The total amount of fuel purchases made will be displayed in this metric.
Harsh Driving
Harsh driving can be defined as instances where dangerous driving has occurred. These instances include hard braking, quick starts, and harsh cornering. Totals for each instance will be displayed in this metric. Ranking will be ordered by worst offender (top). Averages will be shown in the gauge view along with the totals.
High Speed
This metric shows the total number of speeding events for your fleet (or chosen group) during a selected period of time. Speeding events are graded by severity and based on one of two high-speed ranges which can be set in My Benchmarks. The two available ranges are:
- Low (50, 60, 70) mph
- High (70, 80, 90) mph
Idling Duration
Idling can be defined as when a vehicle has its ignition on, but where no (or limited) movement is detected. This particular metric shows just how much idling was done by your fleet (or chosen group) during the selected period of time. In My Benchmarks it is possible to set what you consider to be an excessive amount of idling that any one vehicle can return in a 24-hour period. The metric compares this benchmark with the actual recorded idling duration. If it latter exceeds the benchmark duration, it will be indicated in the results.
Number of Stops
This metric shows the number of stops made by your fleet (or chosen group) during a selected period of time. It displays the acceptable number of stops and indicates if this has been exceeded. The acceptable number of stops benchmark is based on stops made during a 24-hour period and can be set in My Benchmarks.
Payroll Expenses Modelled
This metric shows the estimated payroll cost based on the hours the driver has worked and their hourly rate.
If you have not set a rate for the driver, or no driver is assigned, then Reveal uses a default rate taken from Cost Assumptions in Account Setup.
Safety Score
This metric shows individual safety scores for your fleet (or chosen group) during the selected period of time. Scores range from 0-100. The higher the score, the safer the driver. In the My Benchmarks section of the site you can set what you consider to be an acceptable safety score. The default setting is 80.
Speeding
The Speeding metric has two views - Ranking and Trend.
The Ranking view shows the number of posted and road speed limit violations returned by your fleet during the selected time period. The speed limit violations are color-coded based on their severity classification. Hover over an individual vehicle or driver to see their violations per distance during the selected time period.
The Trend view shows the total number of speeding violations by severity classification for your fleet during the selected time period. The severity classification shows how excessive the speeding violation instances were during the selected period of time. There are three severity levels:
- 1-10% above limit
- 10-20% above limit
- +20% above limit
Start Time
The start time metric helps you identify vehicles that are starting the day too early or too late. This can help identify both unwarranted overtime and tardiness. The metric is based on the working day start and end times set in My Benchmarks. The metric displays early starts, late starts, average start time and average end time.
Stop Duration
This metric shows the number of stops made by your fleet (or chosen group) during the selected period of time. It displays the acceptable number of stops and indicates if this number has been exceeded. The maximum number of stops that can be made in a 24-hour period can be set in My Benchmarks. This does not include the first and last stop of each day.
Vehicle Activity (hours worked)
This metric shows the hours worked based on the working day, starting from the first journey, and ending after the last.
The Stop duration is based on how much time the vehicle spent stopped or idling, depending on the settings you choose.
Any other time is classed as Travel Time.
Vehicle Maintenance Expense
This metric shows the total maintenance costs for each of your vehicles. You can view the cost of maintenance events, total distance travelled and engine on time.
Wasted Fuel
This is a money-based metric that calculates the financial impact idling has on your fleet. It combines idle time with cost assumptions for the vehicle types. These are configured in the user preference section (cost assumptions). It also factors in a fuel cost assumption based on regional settings.
