Avoiding animals in the road can cause vehicles to jackknife or rollover, and collisions can also cause expensive vehicle repairs. Either way, animals in the road can impact businesses with vehicle downtime, increased insurance premiums, and driver injuries.

When an event is triggered, this is reviewed by the cloud AI. The cloud AI analyzes the event and detects a Near miss or Collision. An Animal is detected very close by.
Scenario 1
The driver swerves to avoid an animal in the road. A Harsh cornering event is reviewed by the cloud AI. The cloud AI detects the vehicle swerving off the road onto the soft shoulder. An animal is detected very close by, but no impact exerted on the vehicle. Near miss and Animal tags are applied, along with a Major classification.
Scenario 2
A driver brakes suddenly and collides with an animal. A Hard braking event is reviewed by the cloud AI. The cloud AI detects a significant impact exerted on the vehicle, and an animal very close by. Collision and Animal tags are applied, along with a Critical classification.

The External cause tag is applied when:

Tailgating, a collision, or a near miss is detected alongside another tag that indicates that an external factor prompted the event

No unsafe driving behaviors (such as distracted driving or tiredness) are detected
An Animal tag is applied by:
Cloud AI: The driving environment is detected by the cloud AI when the video is uploaded to Reveal. The video event was triggered by an unsafe driving behavior.
Videos can be falsely triggered, usually when an AI Dashcam lens is obstructed or in the wrong position.
When an animal is detected close by, it does not negatively impact the Video driver safety score.
