The Fuel efficiency report uses Engine Control Module (ECM) data to show how fuel-efficient your vehicles are and how speeding, harsh driving, and idling events impact fuel costs. Use this report to identify vehicles with high fuel consumption and estimate fuel losses across your fleet.

Before running the report
Before you run the Fuel efficiency report with ECM data, complete these prerequisites:
- Enter cost assumptions: Go to your account profile > My Account > Cost Assumptions. Enter your average fuel rates for the time range you plan to report on.
Verify ECM is active: Confirm that the vehicle has ECM data by checking the Diagnostics and data panel on Live Map.
Running the Fuel efficiency report with ECM data
To run the Fuel efficiency report using ECM data:
- Go to Reports.
- Click Fuel efficiency.
- Click Report Options.
- Select ECM (Engine Computer Module) as the data source.
- Configure the date range and vehicles you want to include.
- Click RUN REPORT.
If you do not select ECM as the data source, the report uses GPS-calculated data instead of engine control data.
Note
Reveal labels this option "Engine Computer Module." This is the same as the Engine Control Module (ECM) described throughout these articles.
Understanding the report data
The Fuel efficiency report displays:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Fuel consumed | Total fuel used by the vehicle in the selected period. |
| Fuel efficiency (MPG or L/100km) | Calculated fuel consumption rate based on ECM data. |
| Estimated loss | Calculated fuel cost lost due to speeding, harsh driving, and idling. |
| Speeding impact | Fuel cost attributed to speeding events. |
| Harsh driving impact | Fuel cost attributed to harsh driving events. |
| Idling impact | Fuel cost attributed to idling events. |
The report uses the cost assumptions you entered to calculate dollar values.
Viewing fuel data on the Dashboard
ECM fuel efficiency also displays as a metric on the Dashboard.
To view the fuel efficiency metric:
- Go to Dashboard.
- Locate the ECM fuel efficiency widget.
The Dashboard metric provides a high-level summary. Use the Fuel efficiency report for detailed analysis.
Viewing fuel information on Live Map
The Diagnostics and data panel on Live Map shows the current fuel level as a percentage. This is a real-time snapshot, not a historical report.
For more information about the Live Map panel, see Viewing diagnostics and data on Live Map.
Adjusting unit preferences
Reveal displays fuel efficiency in MPG or L/100km based on your regional settings.
To change the fuel unit:
- In the navigation bar, click your account profile icon.
- Click My Account.
- Adjust the regional preference for fuel consumption units.
- Click Save.
