Reveal captures odometer data through ECM, giving you an accurate mileage reading based on the vehicle’s Engine Control Module (ECM). Odometer data appears throughout Reveal — on Live Map, in Reports, and in the vehicle details — so you always have up-to-date distance information.

How Reveal determines and calculates odometer values

Reveal collects the odometer reading from the ECM and GPS with every data plot. This means the odometer value updates automatically as the vehicle drives, without manual input.

Reveal determines odometer values through three primary methods:

• True Odometer (also known as Actual Odometer): When a vehicle has an ECM-compatible tracker that reports Reveal-compatible odometer values, Reveal displays those values.
• Calculated Odometer (two versions): When true odometer is not available, you enter the starting odometer value during vehicle setup in Reveal. After that, there are two types of backup data that can calculate the odometer value:
• ECM-derived odometer: Uses engine data to calculate distance traveled (most accurate).
• GPS-derived odometer: Uses GPS position data to estimate distance traveled (less accurate).

Where odometer data appears

Odometer data displays anywhere in Reveal where distance or mileage is referenced:

On Live Map

The Diagnostics and data panel shows the current odometer reading for the selected vehicle.

In Reports

Reports that reference distance (such as the Mileage report or Fuel efficiency report) use the ECM odometer value.

In the vehicle overview tab

On the vehicle overview tab (accessible via Admin > Fleet and device list > Select vehicle > Click the three dots in the Actions column > View vehicle), the odometer reading is on the Usage tile.

Adjusting the odometer reading

If you did not enter the initial odometer when the tracker was installed, or if the value needs correction, you can update it at any time.

Adjusting distance units

Reveal displays distance in miles or kilometers based on your regional settings.

To change the distance unit:

1. In the navigation bar, click your account profile icon.
2. Click My Account >Manage your user and account preferences.
3. In User preferences > Regional preferences click EXPAND.
4. Select your Region from the dropdown. Metrics such as distance and date are displayed in the format of the selected country.
5. Click Save.
