Reveal Engine Connect
Reveal Engine Connect provides exact and accurate data about a vehicle, including fuel, distance, ignition and idling, DTC, speed, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and engine hours. Having this information can help to reduce costs and improve vehicle performance.
Reveal Engine Connect can be used with HGVs and LCVs.
If you don’t have Reveal Engine Connect, please contact customer care and support.
Fuel data may not be available based on the hardware that is installed in your vehicle.
A heavy goods vehicle (HGV), also large goods vehicle (LGV) or medium goods vehicle, is the European Union (EU) term for any truck with a gross combination mass (GCM) of over 3,500 kilograms (7,716 lb).Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) normally have two seats in the front with the rest of the vehicle built for carrying commercial goods, up to 3.5 tonnes.
Who Reveal Engine Connect is for
Reveal Engine Connect can benefit anyone working within fleet management. This includes business owners, office managers, admin managers and dispatchers.
How Reveal Engine Connect works
It pulls data captured from the engine by a vehicle’s Engine Control Module (ECM) and displays it in Reveal. When Reveal’s engine data is combined with the Global Positioning System (GPS) location, you have a complete view on where your vehicles are and how they are performing.
The Engine Control Module (ECM)
The Engine Control Module (ECM) is the brains of the engine management system. The module is responsible for controlling fuel mixture, ignition timing, and emissions control. It is constantly monitoring these items to assure the vehicle is in a safe operating status.
Issues sensed by the monitoring of the ECM can trigger Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) which can be read via the Onboard Diagnostics-II (OBD-II) or JBUS port. In short, the ECM performs a wide variety of functions necessary to the operation of a vehicle.
ECM may also be referred to as Engine Computer Module and Electronic Control Module.
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
When there is a problem with a vehicle, the ECM stores a trouble code called a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).
Onboard Diagnostics-II (OBD-II)
The OBD-II is an on-board computer located within a vehicle. It monitors emissions, mileage, speed, and other data about the vehicle.
Data shown in Reveal Engine Connect
The data captured by Reveal Engine Connect includes fuel, odometer reading, ignition and idling events, most Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), speed, Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) and engine hours. The ECM data will override any equivalent GPS data and result in the benefits listed below.
A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a unique code including a serial number, used by the automotive industry to identify individual motor vehicles, towed vehicles, motorcycles, scooters and mopeds as defined in ISO 3833.
Where to find Reveal Engine Connect data
You can view data throughout different parts of Reveal, including the Live Map, dashboards and in the reports section. This data can help track fuel efficiency and early response to problems before they lead to costly downtime.
Benefits of Reveal Engine Connect
Reveal Engine Connect helps your business:
- Measure fuel usage
Accurately measure fuel used and identify driver behaviour linked to fuel costs.
Disclaimer: Fuel data may not be available based on the hardware that is installed in your vehicle.
