Update the Installation method setting for asset trackers

Make sure the installation method for your Equipment Asset Tracker (wired) is correct. This ensures that the tracker reports correctly to Reveal.

In Reveal, the installation method, 3-wire (for powered equipment or similar), is set by default.

This setting is not required for the Equipment Asset Tracker - Battery device.

Choosing the correct installation method

The installation method refers to how the tracker is connected or hardwired to the asset.

There are 2 settings:

  • 2-wire (for trailers or similar)
  • 3-wire (for powered equipment or similar)

If you are unsure how the tracker is installed, contact the installer.

2-wire installation

A 2-wire installation is when the tracker is connected to the asset using the red (battery) and black (ground) wires only. The white (ignition) wire is not used. With this method, ignition on events are not tracked in Reveal.

The 2-wire installation method is typically used when installing trackers on:

  • Trailers
  • Assets without external power

3-wire installation
